You Could Swim BIOGRAPHY BARK BARK BARK is a solo effort by Jacob Cooper, exhibiting multi-instrumental works of spooky brat-rock disco using second-hand synthesizers and keyboards, borrowed musical equipment, and sampled cuts and clicks. Although Jacob currently resides in Tucson, AZ, he has been traveling around and selling many of his homemade records & cassettes for the last few years throughout warehouses, bedrooms, clubs, restrooms, and kitchens across the states, whilst sharing the stage with such acts as: OF MONTREAL, RATATAT, ARCHITECTURE IN HELSINKI, POLYSICS, MAE SHI, NUMBERS, GRAND BUFFET, AQUEDUCT, LES GEORGES LENINGRAD, HELIO SEQUENCE, XBXRX, and BARR. Released in May 2007, HAUNTS is BARK BARK BARK's debut album on LA based Retard Disco, encompassing a colorful lo-fi production reflecting on ex-girlfriends, outer space, zombies and ghosts; but most comparable to the sounds of a monotone BECK, a darker DEERHOOF, and a disjointed LIARS record. His chosen format of noisy, broken beats and lo-fi keyboards mixed with vocal harmonies and acoustic instruments, all recorded and layered by himself, is ultimately more charming. Tracks like “I Love You But I Don't,” which freaks some slightly campy vocals and piano with an 8-bit Atari synth and rolling IDM beat, prove that if the milk bar from A Clockwork Orange opened a Tucson franchise, this guy would be the house act." - Remix Magazine "Two things get bloggers' attention like no other: 1) youth; and 2) an act comprising either seven (or more!) members, a married couple, or just one person masquerading under a band's moniker. So, there have been smattering of blog posts on Arizona's Bark Bark Bark, but given that we're talking about one kid (Jacob Cooper) who's hella young (he be 20), safe to expect more internet love soon (fondness for synths and repetitious name are bonuses). And we fell prey to Cooper's trap; Bark³ brings it like Panthers on standout cut "Haunts," a dirty, dark electro-pop vibe, with digi beats and distorto-vox that moan along to fit its name. Night time dance fare, the sorta stuff Evan and Marilyn probably have blood thunderstorm sex to." - Stereogum.com "Bark Bark Bark lists his influences as monsters, sluts, ghosts, haunted houses, the x-files, outer space and cops. He says the sound is like dragons. Sluts and dragons, it like your best 6th grade Dungeons and Dragons fantasy come to life!" - My Old Kentucky Home "I don’t know anything about this guy. I just got the CD from Andy at Retard Disco and being a fan of his label I played this album called Haunts and liked it. The one-sheet that came with the CD says that the guy called himself Bark Bark Bark because he didn’t want to come off like a singer-songwriter by using his name, which he insists is “gay” in his self-penned bio. Also, he’s 20 and from Arizona. So far, the young man’s future looks bright and it could very well be that you’re hearing him here for the first time. Good luck, son!" - Henry Rollins (INDIE 103.9FM) "Cooper is sort of like Liars or maybe Chromatics with the emphasis on homespun electronics taking darker turns with monotone vocals and hummable songs that let the pop souls fester almost in spite of the brittle avant-garde synthesizers that try to get all the attention." - Audiversity.com PRESS LINKS BIGSTEREO, July 25 AZNightBuzz.com: Subbacultcha, June 21 Audioversity: Interversity, June 16 Stereogum, June 4 IT'S THE MONEY SHOT!!
